CN in Viminacium
After the successful Sofia Numismatic School, we, along with Lyudmil Vagalinski (from the National Archaeological Institute with Museum Sofia), Dilyana Boteva, and Lily Grozdanova (from "St. Kliment Ohridski" University Sofia), spent a day at Viminacium. We had the opportunity to visit the impressive excavations of the city and the legionary camp, as well as the modern research and restoration workshops and the Archaeological Park, including the emerging museum, under the expert guidance of the excavators. Among the spectacular finds of the interdisciplinary team of over 20 people who work and live here during the week, there are not only about 15,000 graves, but also ships and even mammoth skeletons. The purpose of the visit was in-depth discussions about future cooperation, which took place in the so-called Senate Hall. Attending from the Serbian side were the director, Snežana Golubović, and from her team, the archaeologists Nemanja Mrđić and Ivana Kosanović, as well as our colleague, the numismatist, Mirjana Vojvoda. We are very grateful for their generous and warm hospitality. (Photo: R. Saczewski, Münzkabinett Berlin 18202691)
