First Bulgarian Numismatic Readings
The topics should be "focused on coins as a source for the history of the local societies from Antiquity, the Middle ages, and the Ottoman period, as well as the cultural function of coins in the everyday life of the traditional societies (as symbolic hoard, a gift, apotropaic object, etc.)." The Organizing Committee (bg.numismatic.readings@gmail.com) is prepared also to provide a remote connection to the conference for colleagues who would prefer to participate with distant presentations and to join the discussions online. The Bulgarian Numismatic Readings will be organized "by the Faculty of History at Sofia University 'St. Kliment Ohridski', the National Archaeological Institute with Museum at the Bulgarian Academy of Sciences, the Regional History Museum Sofia, and Fibank. The aim of the conference is to set the beginning of regular meetings where Bulgarian and international specialists in the field of numismatics, history, archaeology, art history, anthropology, etc. will present their observations on coin minting and circulation, economy, trade, finances, etc. as a contribution to the picture of the past of Southeastern Europe from Antiquity to the Ottoman period (6th century BC – 19th century)."
