OZeAN - A new online journal on numismatics!
In the first issue you can read two interesting articles: one by Achim Lichtenberger about a new coin type of Dion in the Decapolis minted under Septimius Severus. He identifies the river-god as Hieromykes and offers a new interpretation of the female figure besides him on coins of Adraa as the personification of Styx (one of the daughters of Oceanus). The second article by Ulrich Werz deals with the coin supply of Haltern and Kalkriese and discusses the date of the countermark IMP with Lituus. In the section "report" you fill find a description of a new innovative "Optical System for Coin Analysis and Recognition", O.S.C.A.R., which has been developed by the Landesamt für Denkmalpflege und Archäologie – Landesmuseum für Vorgeschichte - Sachsen-Anhalt in cooperation with the Fraunhofer-Institut für Fabrikbetrieb und -automatisierung (IFF) in Magdeburg. By "digital fingerprints" coins can be described and identified unmistakably.
