Counterfeits - DARIAH - ACCSN

In close cooperation with Bulgarian colleagues, the CN team is recording modern forgeries of ancient Greek and Roman coins from the collection of the Royal Library of Belgium.

As part of our DARIAH-ERIC-funded project "Mistakes as a source of knowledge: ACCSN 2.0", we are recording over 3,000 forgeries from the Coin Cabinet of the Royal Library of Belgium, which is one of the largest collections of counterfeits worldwide. These coins will enter the CN database and made available online, thus providing a valuable source for studies of coin counterfeits.

We express our sincerest gratitude to our Belgian partners, Prof. Dr. François de Callataÿ, and the curator of the Coin Cabinet, Nick Vaneerdewegh, for their friendly cooperation and hospitality, without which this project could not be successfully accomplished.
