Workshop on ancient coins

We are pleased to welcome Prof. Dr. Bartosz Awianowicz from Nicolaus Copernicus University in Toruń to Berlin.

For many years, our colleague has been organizing a workshop on ancient numismatics in Poland twice a year. On the occasion of the World Money Fair, this time a joint workshop will be held in collaboration with the Corpus Nummorum project at the Berlin-Brandenburg Academy of Sciences and Humanities. We will introduce our colleagues to our research center and its history, and provide an overview of the challenges of our new academy project, IMAGINES NVMMORVM: Thesaurus Iconographicus Nummorum Graecorum Online.
Three lectures will invite in-depth discussions:

  • Bartosz Awianowicz (Torun): Private Collections in Public Databases of Ancient CoinsLiterary Studies
  • Michal Hałamus (Poznań/Berlin): Between Rome and Local Traditions: The Development and Sources of the Symbolism of the Bosporan Rulers in the 1st-3rd Cent. CE
  • Ulrike Peter and Vladimir Stolba (Berlin): An Iconographic Riddle from Deultum
